Thoughts & Ruminations

Almost certainly an overshare!

So this is probably something I should leave in my journal, but it really is funny.

[Some context:
CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) is a [insert sardonic word here] requirement of some seminaries. It is basically a 10 - 12 week program in which the participant works as a hospital chaplain. I served my time in Charlotte, NC, which is a lovely town. The experience is supposedly ecumenical (read: relativism, least-common-denominator Christianity, psychology=spirituality, threatened-by-absolute-truth). Needless to say, it was a really tough time for me. I was 22 at the time, and, of course, not yet ordained.]

And so my journal entry:

“Day 1 Billion of CPE. Ha. I’ve found a lot of freedom in being here. I’m also pretty homesick. Both for Mom & Dad but also for Catholics. I’ve been listening to Chris W[est] again and reading more Catholic stuff, but I miss my people and my Church. This pluralism is painful - physically - I just want to not feel like I’m the only one speaking English.”

I love re-reading old journal entries!
